Bank Reconciliation Issues

    Checkbook > Balance Bank Statement

Checkbook Reconciliation should be done every month based on the cycle that your bank sends you statements.
    Skipping months will not work.

If the bank has not been reconciled recently and you do not want to go back in time to do it you may want to use the False Transaction Entry method below.

The bank is not reconciled until the DELTA = 0
Some things to look for if the reconciliation is not working:

The best way to insure the reconciliation is accurate is to make a chart (spreadsheet) that compares every transaction on the bank statement to every transaction this is in Perfect Fit. The amounts must match exactly.

In some cases due to improper entries there may be multiple lines in PF that represent a single line on the bank statement, and vice-versa.

Also make sure the User entered fields Opening and Closing Dates and Balance match the bank statement exactly.

Correcting the balance using a False transaction entry:
    this is not “pure” accounting.

If the Delta is a minus, go to Transactions > Decrease Cash in Bank
If the Delta is a positive, go to Transactions > Increase Cash in Bank

Enter the amount as a positive number.
We recommend the Transaction date be today, and the POST date be the first day in the oldest open period.
The offset account could be an owner’s equity account (3100), or ask your accountant
Click OK to save the transactions.

    Click the Trx Inspect button.
On the Transaction list, double click the line for the Bank Account
Edit the TCLEAR from 0 to 6. This keeps it off the Reconciliation list.

When the Bank Reconciliation window opens it loads Transactions that have the field TCLEAR = 0 or TCLEAR = 5 When a Transaction has been marked as cleared, the TCLEAR = 6.
    TCLEAR = 5 is obsolete.

If a bank transaction is inserted and the TCLEAR is not set properly, the transaction will not show on the reconciliation list and it will be impossible to reconcile with the bank statement.

You can find these transactions by going to Ledger > Reports > Audit Trail > Custom Search.

AUNUM = 1100 (or whatever your GL Bank Account is)
TCLEAR <> 0 (looks for invalid TCLEAR value)
TSOURCE <> CL (do not show closing transactions)

To fix, use the Programmers Transaction Window to Edit TCLEAR on the transaction to 0 (not cleared).
