UPC – UNIVERSAL PRODUCT CODES

PERFECT FIT UPC Module

Each distinct Style/Color/Size item is assigned a unique UPC Code, either individually or by batch.
Inventory window > Other Data > UPC

Number System Character and Unique Manufacturer ID as assigned by the Uniform Code Council are entered and stored in PERFECT FIT under company information. The computer automatically calculates the complete unique UPC numbers using the entered data, including generating the Check Character.

The user can select Stock Numbers from a list to assign UPC numbers to. This allows internal tracking of prototypes, custom items, and other stock numbers that you may not want in your UPC Catalog.

There are fields for each UPC number that can store the NRF’s (National Retail Federation) Standard Color (3 digit) Codes.

All UPC data exists in an optional layer in PERFECT FIT. ie, no fields will be required entry if UPC is not used.

UPC data is be available for electronic export, to be used for 3rd party UPC Ticket systems or EDI using the VICS 832 Transaction Set.

This system does not Support Pre-Pack, Multi-Pack, or Set Pack UPC Coding.

UPC’s are made up of an ID, a Serial #, and a Check Digit.
UPC’s are always 12 digits long
If your UPC Company ID is 8 digits, then your serial # will be 3 digits, and the Check Digit will be 1 digit.
If your UPC ID is 7 digits, then your serial # will be 4 digits, and the Check Digit will be 1 digit, and so on.
See chart below

UPC ID Serial # Check Digit
8 3 1
7 4 1
6 5 1
5 6 1
4 7 1

*Note, the check digit is automatically calculated, do not refer to it when looking at sequential UPC’s.

Example:
The following UPC’s are sequential, incrementing by 1 number.

691210007305
691210007312
691210007329

Ignore the last number since it is a check digit, so think about them as such:

69121000730
69121000731
69121000732
