CUSTOM SEARCHES, ADVANCED TOPICS 1

When the cursor is in the Comparison field entry area, if you type just the first few letters of the field name you will get a drop-down list showing all the matches.
When the cursor is in the Comparison field entry area, hit F9 on the keyboard (or Command-9 on the Mac, or Control-9 on the PC) to open a list window of all available fields. The left list are the file names used in PERFECT FIT, and the right list shows the field names for the highlighted file. For computing efficiency, the field names are kept short, although many are recognizable for what they stand for. Depending upon your Password level, not all files may show. The Master Password can control the available files for each password level.
The Comparison value is Case Sensitive. “smith” will not find “Smith”.
The Mode operators will search letters as well as numbers. A search on all customers with names greater than “F” will list customers with names beginning with F or greater.
If is often better to search on fields using the Begins with operator rather than the equals. This can sometimes avoid missing records due to spelling errors, or extra spaces.
If the same field is used on 2 adjacent lines in the search format, there is an implied OR between the lines. Different fields carry an implied AND. The mode AND and OR rarely need to be used.
The Calculation mode requires deeper knowledge of the Omnis7 functions and mathematical operators. Call AG Systems for more information.
Look under the Modify menu for some commands that can help build Search formats.
